For the past few days I've been feeling a bit itchy down there. No abnormal discharge, no pain while urinating, really nothing else-- just an uncomfortable irritation. I haven't had sexual contact in weeks, and, in any case, I've never had intercourse and neither my boyfriend nor I has had any sexual contact with anyone else. I'm thinking the irritation might be a result of wearing swimsuit bottoms as underwear for a day (the day before the itch started)-- does that make sense? If so, will it likely go away on its own? Should I be worried?

It's possible the swimsuit bottoms may not have allowed that delicate skin to breathe, and that you may have the start of a yeast infection or some other sort of irritation.
If you haven't got any other signs--no discharge or bad smells, and the itching isn't unbearable--then the best thing to do might be to continue to not have any sexual contact, drink LOTS of water (and cranberry juice without added sugar), and wear cotton undies for a few days and see if it doesn't clear up. If, however, you do develop irritation or a discharge, it's time to go to the doctor to find out what it is. Self-treatment isn't a good idea, because if it's not a yeast infection to begin with, medicating it as such can cause one.
