Which is better to use during vaginal intercourse spit or store bought lubricant? If Lubricant, does lube cause any short term or long term problems?

Lubricant, all the way! And if it's water-based, it should cause no problems whatsoever, though oil based lubes, which you'll most likley not see sold, can destroy condoms.

Lube, lube, lube!

Saliva (or any other substance) is no substitute for a good water based lube such as Astroglide, and many other brands are widely available too. Water based lube reduces friction, increasing sensation and preventing condom breakage and vaginal rips and tears that can lead to STD transmssion. Lube has no long term or short term effects--you can never have too much lube.
