what are the symptoms of yeast infections? what can cause a yeast infection?

i have been very itchy down there for a while and i have a white or yellow discharge at times and sometimes it may even be green. i haven't had sex since may. this itchy feeling and discharge started about 2 months after the last time i had sex. what could it be?

Anytime you have discharge that is the wrong color or itches, you need to see your doctor. You might have a yeast infection, but it also might be some other infection. So don't try to treat it yourself with an OTC yeast infection treatment. If it's not a yeast infection, and you treat it as one, you'll probably end up giving yourself a yeast infection! So call your doctor ASAP so you can get this resolved.
