Hey yall, I was just wondering: Can you catch an STD even if you use a condom? (Say that person has an STD but uses protection.)

There are STDs that can be transmitted around a condom. However, please note that I am not saying they're transmitted through the condom. A condom doesn't cover the entire genital, for instance, something like pubic lice could be contracted during any genital contact (with or without a condom).

However, condoms do offer wonderful protection from most things that are really nasty. And they are the best/only way (other than abstinance) to protect yourself from STD transmission. So as long as you and your partner get checked out regularly and use all the protective measures possible, you should be fine.

Check out the Infection Section for more info on STDs.
