Simple balls on a barbell don't seem like they'd present a problem, but other stuff, like little plastic stars or dice or anything with points might not be a good idea.
BTW, the Toronto Star had a rather graphic and disturbing piece on a tongue piercing gone terribly wrong a couple of weeks ago, and while I can't find the article on their site, I still think I should warn you that piercings, when badly done, can be extremely dangerous. Do some research on the 'net, check out lots of tattoo/piercing places, and talk to the piercers, and talk to people who've had the kind of piercing you want before you even think of actually putting you flesh to the needle, okay? I'm sure you've seen how unhappy simple ear piercings can get, you do NOT want a bad tongue piercing.
