i was just wondering why you shouldn't get spermicidal condoms? i was reading "tools of the trade" on this site, and i just got confused.

the spermicide used right now is called nonoxynol-9. It works by dissolving sperm the same way dish detergent cuts grease on your dirty dishes. Unfortunately, if you've ever done your dishes without rubber gloves, you'll know dish soap can really dry out and irritate your skin. Likewise, nonoxynol-9 can be harsh on the vagina. In fact, studies have shown that nonoxynol-9 can *increase* the risk of transmitting HIV to women because it causes microtears in the vaginal lining.
so there you have it, why you should not use spermicidal condoms. instead, i personally recommend Astroglide over non-spermicidal, lubricated condoms.
