Transgendered people often face unique health concerns. Of course, there are hormones and surgery, but even those who have not taken any steps to physically change their gender often deal with depression, self mutilation, substance abuse, discrimination and hate crimes and many of the same issues faced by other queer people.

This gives a good overview, and at there are some more specific articles about gender reassignment surgery and silicone injection.
