I'm on a medication where one of the most prominent side effects is loss of appetite. It's frustrating; as silly as it sounds, I don't want to eat even though my stomach is growling and my body is begging for food, and it seems like nothing tastes good! How can I feed myself when eating feels like a chore, and what can I eat that's good for me and filling? [Smile]

Ug! I've been through a couple of medications that have done that, and it definitely sucks.

Some suggestions:

1. Take a daily multivitamin with iron to supplement your diet.
2. Eat more small meals a day, instead of a couple huge ones.
3. If you do snack, make it fruits and vegetables. If your appetite is missing in action, what you do manage to eat really counts- so try to snack healthy by grabbing a banana or the like.
4. See a nutritionalist and explain your problem- they'll have lots of ideas of how to work what you need into your diet.
5. Ask the doctor who prescribed you the medication for tips about dealing with this side effect.

Have you thought about trying some meal replacement shakes or protien shakes. They don't feel as "heavy" as food, but do have some good nutritional value. I have one for breakfast everyday because I just can't get myself to sit down and eat something.

Indeed I have [Smile] The only problem is finding the right one; most of the mixes avaliable are for building muscle and are very high calorie, and the brand I used to get seems to have disappeared. I've found that soymilk and fruit smoothies are filling and good, though not a lot of fruit is in season now. Thanks for the advice [Smile]
