I have been vegetarian for a year, and have since noticed a MAJOR decreased in cramping or pain from cramping when I have my period. Could this have something to do with my being vegetarian, or is it just part of growing up?

Likely it's both.

Limiting or removing meats and dairy -- especially the more fatty varieties -- is often suggested to help reduce menstrual cramping. But, too, in healthy women, it's normal for periods to settle down over time as your cycles normalize and regulate.

Yeah me too same thing happen. I've been a vegetarian for three or four years. When i first had my period at 14 is was so painful I actually wasn't able to do anything and was taking pills to reduce the pain. Now that I had any meat, the pain are less present although they are still here.

It might also be age to a bigger extent.. I was veggie long before I ever started mine and they were absolute hell until my lovely little pill-pack friends came along.

Now they're not so bad- but I am on a higher dose BC pill, so I don't know how much I can help :-P

I think you misread.

Generally, many vegans and vegetarians report a DEcrease in cramping, not an INcrease.

But anyone with severe menstrual pain should talk to their doctor, regardless. Sometimes it is normal, sometimes it is not. Sometimes simple medications and/or lifestyle changes can make a difference, other times, cramping is severe due to more serious conditions that require treatment.
