The very best advice I can give is to do your best to choose a provider who is skilled with insertion.

If you have already done that, and have also discussed any concerns with them, and been honest about your health and sexual history as need be, besides following aftercare instructions to the letter (like practicing safer sex for at least three weeks afterwards), there's really nothing to do to prepare for an IUD insertion.

What a bummer! You may have other options though - Title X clinics (like Planned Parenthood) offer sliding scale fees for their services, so there might be a clinic near you where you could have the insertion done for a lower cost.

[Frown] Went to Planned Parenthood today and although it would've been cheaper to get it there, it is still way too expensive [Frown] $1100 at the doctors office and $900 at PP [Frown]

I'm sorry that didn't work out well for you! That's a big bummer about the cost. There's not way they can go lower at Planned Parenthood since it's not covered by your insurance and you can't afford that amount? $900 still seems crazy high!

In the meantime, you can check out this article to see if there are any other methods that might work for you: Birth Control Bingo!
