My girlfriend and I just had sex tonight. She has been on the pill for 12 days, including today. I am just worrying because until about 3-4 days ago she was late taking her pills by a couple hours, but only for maybe 4 or so days. The doctor at the birth control center said a week would be sufficient time for the pill to work. I did ejaculate inside of her. I don't want to bring it up because I don't want her to worry, but am debating getting plan b.
When did she start the pill in terms of her periods? If she started on the first day of her bleeding (or up to 4 days after this), she should be fully protected from pregnancy from the beginning of pills. If she started at any other time in her cycle, she'd still likely be fully protected after 7 days, as your doctor said. Scarleteen recommends using additional contraception (eg. condoms) for the 1st month of a new pill though, in order be extra safe.
Taking the pill within 2 hours difference from the usual time isn't considered a 'late pill' so that wouldn't compromise its effectiveness.
