i started taking birth control this past sunday (11/7/10) as directed (i started my period this past friday). i had sex with my fiance this evening, and we only used spermicidal foam, and he didn't pull out. am i safe from pregnancy? or is it too soon to rely on the birth control?

When you say birth control, are you talking about a combined oral contraceptive pill? It sounds like you've been taking the pill for only 3 days and yes, this is too soon to rely on the birth control for protection. You need to take it for at least 7 days to rely on it for full protection following a sunday start.

Spermicide alone is around 70-80% effective in preventing pregnancy:

If you're not comfortable with that level of risk, you'd need to take emergency contraception as soon as possible, preferably within 72 hours of your pregnancy risk. You'll want to continue taking your pill as normal and use a barrier method (condoms) for the rest of this month.

Whether or not you decide to go with emergency contraception, its a good idea to take a home pregnancy test either 10-14 days after your risk or if you miss your next bleed.
