I've been on Yasmin 28 for 5 years and my sex drive is now ka-put. I'm thinking of going on the shot or the ring. Any of you gain your sex drive back? I searched through the pros/cons of both. NuvaRing users said they had one, but I'm weary abut the ring.

The Ring kind of put a damper on my sex life- of all the pills I've been on (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, TriNessa, Yaz, Lybrel), it had the biggest impact on my desire to have sex, though I think it had more to do with the general discomfort/inconvenience of it for me. It was painful to have in during sex and having to remove it (which sometimes felt like removing a dry tampon) wasn't the most pleasurable pre-sexytime event. Then again, it wasn't decreased by all that much- I still wanted to do it. A lot.
Shot in the dark as to WHY Yaz and Yasmin do that- drospirenone is similar to spironolactone, an anti-androgenic medication often used for the treatment of acne (which is why Yaz is used a lot to treat acne) among other things. Anti-androgens work by "blocking" the receptors for androgens, or male sex hormones. Since those are what give us OUR sex drive, it would make sense that female libido suffers. I hope that makes sense. But if this theory is correct, changing from drsp to a regular old progestin SHOULD help.
