The day I got my prescription for birth control (Loestrin, if that makes a difference) was the day I finished my period. I was told I should start the birth control the Sunday before my period, but I really don't want to wait that long, especially since I have limited access to condoms/other forms of birth control.

So, I took the first pill in the packet today (a Sunday). Was that really wrong? Is that going to mess everything up?

It won't mess everything up, it's just that:

a) you'll need to use a backup method of birth control for the whole of this first pack (so I hope you took some extra condoms from your provider: if not, you and yours need to find a way to get some, or hold off on intercourse for the next month), and

b) it may take a little longer for your withdrawal bleeds to get in sync with the placebo period of your pill than it does when you start on Day one of a period or by the first Sunday after a period starts.
