I am going on a vaction to the beach at the end of this month with my serious boyfriend and would like to skip my period. I am on YAZ birthcontrol and have been using it for over a year now. I am proud to say that I never forget to take my pills and take them at almost the same time every day! I heard that it is possible to skip your period while on birthcontrol. How do I do this on YAZ? Will it hurt my body? Will I still be prevented from pregnancy? [Confused]

-Thanks!

That's great that you're a perfect pill user, and yes, you sure can. Yaz is a monophasic pill, which means that it gives you the same amount of hormones in every pill instead of changing week by week like triphasic pills. Monophasics are much easier to take continuously like you want to do.

So, at the end of your pack when you should be taking your placebo pills, just go straight into a new pack of active pills. It's likely not going to hurt your body in any way-- the worst that could happen is that you get some spotting, which even then isn't very likely since you've been using the pill for so long.

Yes, you will still be protected from pregnancy. The only difference is that you will not have a withdrawal bleed this month.

Thank you! Also, when I skip do I need to use a back up method of birth control if we have sex?

It's a good idea since it never hurts to be too safe, but you will still be well-protected by the pill if you choose not to use a back-up method.
