I think this is a pretty common question, but I have never tried skipping a period on the ring, so here we go.

I would like to skip my next period or delay it by a week, but my first concern is maintaining the effectiveness of the BC because I am having regular sex. So I'm wondering:
- Does messing with my period affect the effectiveness of the BC?
- Would it be better to leave the old ring in for an extra week or to put a new one in when I would have my period week? Does the hormone really run out after 3 weeks?
- Is it better for BC purposes to delay a period by one week or to skip it entirely? I'm more just curious about this, because the answer to the above question will determine what I do.

My guess is that it would be safer to put in a new ring early. But if skipping or delaying a period affects the effectiveness I might just live with it.

Thanks [Smile]

Suppressing menstruation is NOT known to impact the effectiveness of the birth control method used to do that with.

However, if you simply leave your current ring in past three weeks, it may NOT be effective: the ring is not designed to be effective for longer than that period of time (so yes, the hormone does really run out after three weeks). So, if you are going to do this, the way to do it is to use a new ring at the end of the three weeks.
