I have been on Mercilon for one month. I finished my first pack last Sunday and I am currently on the 3rd day of the 7 days that I am not supposed to be taking any bcp. Is it normal to not have any withdrawal bleeding? Before I started taking BCP, I would always have cramps on the first day of my period and breast tenderness before that. Is it okay that I have very slight and passing cramps and breast soreness even if I don't have my period? I also had slight bleeding that was brownish in color 4 days after my boyfriend and I had sex. We used a condom even though I'm on the pill just to be sure. Is that what's called breakthrough bleeding? I know I have so many questions but it's a bit difficult for me to find answers since I come from a family where topics like these are considered taboo.

It's pretty common, during the first couple cycles of pills, to find your withdrawal bleeds aren't in sync with your placebo period of the pills right away.

the bleeding you had before may have been breakthrough bleeding, or may have also been bleeding from the sex (one hint: you usually need extra lube while on hormonal methods of BC). And the symptoms you are getting now may be about an impending withdrawal bleed.

For now, I'd just wait it out a little bit. given you backed up with condoms, pregnancy seems very unlikely, so I'd be unconcerned about that.
