So, I should've taken my last pill of my first pack of birth control today. However, I went refill my birth control, and they didn't give my old pack back. So, I didn't get to take the last one.
I believe those are the sugar pills- the week that I'm suppose to have my period. So, my question is this, if I don't take them, does it reduce effectiveness? Aren't they just like a reminder?

You'll have to be more specific about the brand of birth control pills for anyone here to be certain, but it does sound extremely likely that those are just placebos (sugar pills). Some brands include a small iron supplement too, but nearly all combined pills have the last week of the pack as "reminders" as you called it. So you should be fine--Just start the new pack when you should have.
