I've been on the pill for several months now, and unfortunately I forgot to take the first pill of my pack yesterday, however I took it today. Would I have to take another pill to make up for the pill I was supposed to take?

Would I need to have a backup for the next week or two?

Actually, of ALL the days you could miss, missing the first day of a pack can create the biggest risks of all. In fact, a nurse at the clinic where I work was just telling me a while back that a common fertility treatment lately is to do a couple packs of pills, then go off and to have sex that first day of the missed pill.

You should take two pills today: your missed pill and the one scheduled for today, then absolutely use a backup for the next week at a minimum.
