I know this sounds like a pretty rookie question, but I'm getting fairly frustrated here.
I've never gone down on another woman before, and my partner and I are getting to the point in our relationship where we're more than ready to go there. However, there's a mild probelm.
We want to go for safe oral sex, but none of the stores or chemists in our area seem to stock dental dams - half of them, believe it or not, don't even seem to know what they are, forcing me to explain red-faced and still turning up no results. Our only option seems to be the internet, but neither of us have a credit card and I'd be mortified to ask my parents to order such a thing on my behalf - having them only recently come to terms with the fact that I am in love with someone of the same gender.
(Her parents are out of the question - wildly homophobic and religious, they're convinced that we're hellbound and refuse to even let me in the house.)
Anyway, I'm off topic. Are there any other options besides the saran-wrap and split condoms, which seem riduliously awkward to use, to me, or is there any other way to get my hands on such a thing besides mail order? Would my doctor's supply them, or something?

I really don't think a cut condom is any less useable than a dam, in my experience. Saran wrap also works just as well as a dam.
One other option is using a glove as a barrier, which can actually work quite well. To do that, you just cut the four fingers off the glove, then cut up the side opposite of the thumb that remains. Then you open up the glove: it's up to you whether or not to use the thumb remaining. It can actually work well to just slide your tongue into it.
