I am going on vacation later this week to a place that is three hours behind where I live now.

In order to minimize spotting and other pill side effects from taking the pill at the wrong time, should I get up at 4:30 a.m. every morning there and take the pill so that I always get it 24 hours apart? I normally take it at 7:30 a.m., but if I wait until 7:30 their time, I will be three hours late with taking it.

What's the best course of action to keep on a good schedule so that when I return I am still protected?

Thank you.

In terms of effectiveness, it would be best to take it the same time you do at home- so yes, 4:30 am. (Boy that sucks!)

In terms of spotting and such, you likely wouldn't experience too much if you started taking them at the "new" 7:30, since 3 hours isn't a HUGE difference to our bodies. However, that may compromise your effectiveness, so if you choose to do this, you should back up with another form of protection such as condoms for the rest of the cycle.

What about Daylight savings time? When that occured I took it at the "new time", but for future reference should I continue to take mine at 4:30 or should I take it at 3:30 when we go back?

Since it's only a one hour difference, you can do either, just fine. [Smile]

I ended up going on a trip in which the time change required me getting up at 3 AM to take my pill...then having to change to 4 AM when we changed time zone again!

Just a suggestion, but an alarm clock, or setting an alarm on a digital watch for your given pill time makes things much, much easier.
