I just finished my last pack of Ortho Novum 7/7/7 (I'm on the placebo pills now), and on the 29th, I should start my first pack of OrthoCycline(no clue if I'm spelling this right). Should I treat this pill change like I did my first pill cycle, and use condoms/not have sex for the first pack?

My pills were changed because I started getting some spotting in about April, and it only got worse. Now I'll be on the same hormone level all month, til the placebos.

Were it me, I'd use backup for the first month anytime I had a pill change, especially given how easy it is to use condoms. But that would absolutely be erring on the side of caution.

But since the two hormones in both pills are the same, just in different amounts/times (and the amount of norethindrone is higher in the Cyclen), it's pretty likely your effectivess would just carry through here, so long as there's no lapse between you taking the old pills and the new ones.

Thanks! I was wondering about the hormone levels -- I thought the clinician said something about that, but that was a month ago, so my memory's not too great.

There won't be any lapse between me finishing the placebos and starting the new pills -- I've been really good about taking them on time, even when I just have to wake up, pop the pill, and go back to sleep.
