With the contraceptive shot your covered for 12 weeks. I would assume that people get the shot many times in a row to prevent pregnancy. Is it safe to postpone your period for 6 months (2 rounds of the shot)? Or even longer?

Depo-Provera contains no estrogen. Estrogen is the hormone that drops during the last stage of the menstrual cycle to allow the uterine lining to be shed. With continous birth control pill usage, a woman can prevent the drop in estrogen by skipping the placebo pills and continuing to take active pills.

Since the shot has no estrogen, you can't skip periods in the same manner. After long-term usage, however, some women's periods may become erratic and even stop entirely.

If menstrual suppression is something you're interested in, your doctor would be the best person to talk to. [Smile]
