My gf has been on the pill (Trivora) for almost a year to regulate her period. We've recently had sex without condoms. Today she told me that she was a little worried that the purpose of her taking the pill is to regulate her period. Does this change the effectiveness of the pill to prevent pregnancy in anyway or are we just overthinking things? I've heard that regulating periods was just a benefit of taking the pill, but could you guys fill me in with some more info? *She is pretty good at taking the pill everyday.

Provided she takes it at the same time each day, it will function as regular birth control as well, with a 99% effectiveness rate, if I remember correctly.

I started on Seasonale (a three-month variety of bc) for the same reason, and the doctor said lots of women take it even when they're celibate for because it helps regulate their periods and they have little to worry about as far as pregnancy goes. So I would say the regular period is just a benifit.
