Actually most packs DO suggest you take the pill as soon as you've realized you've missed it- at least every single prescription of birth control I've ever had (which is a few) has listed that in its instructions.
I think the reason "take two the next day" is also often included in the instructions is because many women will not realize they have missed a pill until they go to take their pill the next day and see they missed the previous day.
Oh. I was always under the impression that you HAD to take it the next day. No matter. I took mine as soon as I realized I missed it this morning because my clock was stuck on alarm set (6:10 when I take my pill) and I didn't realize it was actually 9:45.
