Has anyone here seen the film Kinsey, about the life and work of sex researcher Dr. Alfred Kinsey? If not, I highly recommend it. If so, what did you think about it?

Also, any opinions on his work in the field of sexuality? I think he was pretty awesome myself. [Smile]

I thought the film was a great one, and did a really fantastic job of illustrating Kinsey's life. If you ever want something even deeper, you can read the quite-giant, but very, very good biography Alfred C. Kinsey : A Public/Private Life by James H. Jones.

I think he was pretty awesome, too. One thing I thought the film did a good job of was looking into some of his ethical missteps in a very honest, real way. And he certainly made them. But there's been a lot of ethical issues throughout sexology, and I find his some of the least disconcerting. I also extend him, I think, a little more slack given he really didn't have colleagues in the field to lean on nor a real history in the field to draw from.

Also, that scene near the end with Lynn Redgrave reduces me to piles and piles of tears every single time I've seen it. And as someone who spends her life working in the field, it's also a scene that's a really great reminder about why those of us in it tend to stay in it, because we know that people have experiences like that woman did where what we do can change everything for someone, and that's a really big deal.
