I've just recently seen the movie Mary Silliman's War, which is based on the life of Mary Fish Silliman as depicted in the biography The Way of Duty.

A truly excellent movie if you're looking for something historical and thought provoking. Mary Silliman, who is the wife of Selleck Silliman, the state's attourney for Connecticut during the American Revolution. After prosecuting two men and their conviction for treason (based on the fact that they were loyal to England) and their subsequent death sentence, Selleck is kidnapped away to New York and held. The story is about Mary Silliman, and the how she worked to get her husband returned.

This movie is very interesting in alot of ways. One of the most interesting things is the way you can see the shifting gender ideals of the time period. It portrays a very true image of the balance of power in colonial male/female relationships and the subtle changes in that caused by the American Revolution. Women were beginning to obtain a degree of autonomy, and this shows the beginning stages of that in several cases.

Overall, an excellent movie if you're a history buff, or if you have an interest in gender studies.
