I know this is a little off topic, but I was wondering if anyone had seen any good french films.

Last night I saw "Let there be light" (1997) starring Helene de Fourenelles. It was about god wanting Jeanne (Helene) to make his film of peoples dreams. She ended up in a mental institution and all the patients broke out and went to make their movie. It was both funny and uplifting at the same time.

Another really funny french film is this one about a knight and his squire who come from medieval france into present day france. It is funny the way they try and use modern appliances, for example in one scene the squire goes into the toilet and marvels over how clean the water is and starts drinking from it. Turns out this was the highest grossing french film for that year.

I also want to see "Rosetta" when I have time.

My favorite French film is Alisee, set in Quebec. I think it's in Montreal. It's about a girl named Alisee who's trying to find her father, and stays with this couple. It sounds boring, but it's really a great film. It was on Bravo a couple times.

1) Belle du jour w/ catherine deneuve: surreal erotic drama, made in 1967 (6?)
2) shoot the piano player: this one made me cry!
3) la piscine: alain delon and romy schneider in a tale of love triangles and murder
4) un homme et une femme: one of my faves, made in 1966
5) les sanguinaires: i think this was a tele-movie, not sure. new year's gone awry.

My favourite French film is "Sun un air d'autoroute". It's about a guy that gets his ear cut off my a vinyl record and his search to find it. It's totally hilarious :-P It has a small love theme to it, too... but that's not what kept me laughing the whole time

Heehee! What was the name of the one about the knight and his squire? I saw it once when I was little, and would like to see it again... but I can't remember the name of it.

"Les Visiteurs".

One of my favorite French films is "La Vie revee des anges" ("The dreamlife of angels"). It's about 2 girls trying to make it on their own in the north of France and having mixed success. I also liked "Nikita", the one made by Luc Besson.

Amelie!

Audrey Tautou is one of the most adorable people I have ever seen.

That movie makes me smile all over.

Word of warning: I saw Rosetta and it seriously seriously sucked. There was absolutley no point. I was forced to watch her roam around ruining her and other's lives. it was horrible. On a lighter note: Amelie ruled. That was one of the sweetest movies I've seen all year. It was awesome.
