I just wanted to leave a little note in here as it seems that lately a lot of users have come to us with information they have found around the internet about sex and especially pregnancy/birth control that is very unhelpful to them.
One of the places that seems to pop up a lot is yahoo answers which is where other people can answer questions which people ask on the site. The people answering do not have to be professional, or have any in depth knowledge about what information they are giving out. They do not get moderated on whether the answer is accurate or not. In a way it would be the same as if you were to pick out some random people out on the street and ask them for advice, some may give you terrible advice or just repeat rumors they have heard without knowing it is unhelpful and others may give really accurate advice, but how do you know? Should you take any of that advice as 100% accurate and helpful advice? Well the short answer is no.
I know a lot of information goes around among peers especially at high school and it is difficult to forget what you hear when you are worrying about something like sexual health and birth control and when some users come here to ask a question and we answer it may feel hard to accept the answer we give you.
One thing that might help you is to remember that Scarleteen is required to provide accurate information to you, we are informed of what is real and accurate information and what is not, and while you may still have feelings of anxiety it is entirely your choice on whether to accept the information we give you or not.
So beware of what you find around the internet, it may just be that it causes extra anxiety which you don't need in a time that is already feeling stressful to you.
