Hello, I have been on ortho tri cyclen lo for about 5 months now. I got my period this month a little earlier than the placebo pills which sometimes happens for me, especially when I'm stressed. This month I when I got my period there was clotting and what seemed like a regular flow, however it was not as heavy as it usually is. It still lasted 5-6 days and it was much more than spotting. I read an article though that says you can have regular periods and actually be pregnant? I was just wondering about the validity of that statement and the likelihood that I could be pregnant even though I had my period.
Thank you

HI worried789,

The amount of blood, or the rate of flow, or how many days the flow lasts, or anything else about a period or withdrawal bleed--which is what a period is called when someone is on the birth control pill--can vary from cycle to cycle. There's generally nothing concerning about this variation.

Yes, some people do experience bleeding when pregnant, but that bleeding is for other reasons related to the pregnancy and wouldn't occur at the same time as a period or withdrawal bleed, or resemble a period or withdrawal bleed.

If you have engaged in sexual activity that could lead to pregnancy, and are concerned that you're pregnant, the only way to find out either way is through a pregnancy test.
