I have tried to have sex with my boyfriend a few times now and I can't because I can't spread my thighs wide enough without it really hurting. Is there anything I can do or do I just need to exercise/stretch more? I've never had sex before but I wasn't expecting this kind of problem.

I searched the forum and the whole site for the word 'thigh' and nothing came up about this so I guess it's unusual. I'm worried.

Thanks!

Well, may be about needing to do one or both of the following:
a) experiment with positions for sexual activities to find the ones that do NOT cause you any pain, and if,
b) there really aren't any, then I'd expect you might have discomfort from more than sex per a lack of flexibility, so look into doing some work with your body in terms of increasing flexibility, specifically. Basic stretching and hatha yoga are both great for that, and sex or no sex, it's good for us to keep our bodies as flexible as we can: it benefits our overall health.

I'd also add that if this is something that has only happened a couple of times AND sex with a partner is new to you, it might also be about feeling nervous, anxious or scared. When we feel those ways, our muscles tend to tense up. So, check in with yourself about your feelings, too.

HI flowergirl89 and welcome to Scarleteen.

Exercise could certainly help, but if you're having pain it's a good idea to check in with your doctor. Do you experience pain when doing other daily activities?
