Hello,

I am experiencing a burning sensation during intercourse and afterward. Otherwise my vagina feels fine. I have been in a monogamous relationship for 3 years and we are both clean. I know this because I get tested regularly. We do not use condoms because we've had bad experiences with them. I thought I had a yeast infection but I was treated for it and no longer have the symptoms but the burning is still there. It has been there for about three weeks and it is ruining my sex life. Foreplay feels fine although not as good as usual and when he goes to enter me, it is painful even though I am wet. We have even tried lubricant. I am going to the doctor but wanted some ideas as to what they should be looking for before I go. Please if you have experienced this or heard of it, help me out.

Also I was curious if anyone experienced this during pregnancy? I am not sure that I am pregnant but I am experiencing tenderness in my breasts and pelvis as well as nausea and exhaustion.

After that yeast infection, since you've still had burning like this, were you able to check back in with your healthcare provider?

Sounds like you haven't, but that's the plan, and I'd say that's the first step. This could be for a host of reasons, the most likely, I'd say, being the infection not being treated as much as needed, or developing a different one since.

Pregnancy should not create this symptom, no. But any change in the vaginal flora potentially could.

What is vaginal flora? And what can cause changes? I should also add that my lubrication has completely changed consistency which is another reason I thought to try the lubricant. I am definitely going to the doctor though. I am just waiting for an appointment to become available.

Vaginal flora is a term that refers to the micro-organisms that are part of our vaginal environment. The "good" -- and sometimes "bad" -- bacteria, if you will.

That environment changes all the time, just like the flora of our digestive tract, based on our whole health and state of being, what we eat, and with the reproductive system, where we're at in our fertility cycles, etc. Too, what we introduce to it. So, for instance, semen changes the vaginal flora (temporarily). So can things like douches and certainly, some infections.

It does sound like it'd be smart to be checked for infections again, and have a follow-up about that yeast infection, sooner rather than later if you are having burning, I'd say.
