I'm 18 and 3 months ago moved down to university as a virgin with very little sexual experience.

I've had a few sexual encounters since I've been down and while they are usually enjoyable, when it actually comes to attempting to having penetrative sex, I can't seem to 'fit' a penis inside me. When it comes to trying to have full intercourse all I get is a lot of pain and the feeling that there is nowhere for the penis to go. I'm in a relationship now with a very sweet, considerate guy who says his previous girlfriends have had a similar problem and he's ready to take it as slowly as needs be to solve it. He never ever pushes me into trying, I'm always the one who suggests it but when it starts hurting he always wants to stop as obviously doesn't want to cause me pain.

However, we've tried 3 times now to try and have full sex and each time we have to stop because it just feels like he may as well be inserting it into my elbow as it just doesn't seem to go anywhere. I use tampons and he did manage to fit two fingers in fairly comfortably, so I know that I can get stuff up there. I don't know if it is perhaps something to do with our positioning?

I just really feel like I'm letting him down as I just can't seem to figure out what to do about it. I feel ready for this and we always take time to do loads of foreplay beforehand (and I'm always extremely turned on and willing) but I'm starting to worry that I'll never be able to have full sexual intercourse.

Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem and how to solve it?
