Hi there,
I was curious if HIV or if any other STD's can be transferred by kissing/making out.

Thanks for your time [Smile]

HIV cannot be spread through kissing- it's only transferred through bodily fluids (not including saliva) or through blood-to-blood contact.

I think the only STI that can be spread through kissing is herpes, which can be transmitted orally. (It's pretty unlikely to be transmitted through kissing unless one person has an active herpes sore on their mouths, though, but it is technically possible.)

However, I'm pretty sure (please correct me if I'm wrong) that HIV can be spread through kissing if it involves blood to blood contact- as in, an HIV positive person having a cut inside their mouth, or bleeding gums (from flossing perhaps), and the other person getting the blood into their mouth.

This is easily avoidable, though, by just checking for bleeding before kissing.
