How often are "regular" STI check-ups supposed to be? I'm asking because they're extremely hard to get where I am - I'm honestly in the middle of nowhere, any healthcare beyond the very basic requires a long trip and I don't own a car. And I can't rely on my usual rides because I'm not in a position where I can really afford to have people find out that I'm having sex, let alone homosexual sex. So getting a checkup would involve a lot of money just to get to the clinic, plus whatever the place itself charges - I can't charge it to my insurance either.

There's really just not many resources out there for us rural kids. I'm trying my best, but I don't know what to do here.

It all depends on how often you change partners. If you both get tested in the beginning and both of you are found clear and stay exclusive, then once a year is fine. If you change partners, then it is recommended to get tested more often. Here is an article that may be of help to better understand how to stay safer Safe, Sound & Sexy: A Safer Sex How-To .
