Hey,

So on Tuesday, I went and got a bikini wax. When I got there and the women started to wax me, I noticed she wasn't using using a new basin of wax and she was using the applicator thing that was just sitting in the pot of wax. I am almost sure this was not a new wax applicator. Since she had already started, I allowed her to continue without saying anything. However, today I awoke and noticed that the left lip on my vagina hurt real bad. I touched it and noticed it was a bit swollen. When i went to the bathroom I noticed my left vaginal lip was a bit swollen and there appeared to be a "head" like on a pimple [though the area that is swollen is not a bump like a pimple, it's much to wide and flat]. So i squeezed it and a whole lot of pus came squirting out. I decided since I had started, I woud try and cleanly get all the pus out with a qtip and use some antiseptic cream afterwards. As the squeezed the pus out, the swelling got a bit smaller, but it is still painful and a bit swollen sans pus. My question is, could this just be a normal side effect of getting a wax, because of a blocked hair follicle or something, or should I be concerned that I may have caught something from the not-so-clean salon? I am concerned.

P.S. Sorry if I put this int he wrong forum.

That's sounding more like a boil than a pimple to me, and that much pus sounds like there's a possibility for one doozy of an infection. I'd get checked by a doctor just to make sure. Not to scare you, but there have been women who've gotten so seriously ill from bikini waxes that some states in the USA have considered bans on them.. they're usually relatively safe, but in absence of proper hygienic conditions, things can get ugly. If you do get a bacteria infection confirmed, you might want to consider reporting the salon to the appropriate health agency.

I agree with Lauren, and, in the future, make sure you go to really reputable salons with licensed estheticians. And if you see something like this going on during your wax again, please advocate for yourself! Request and new pot of wax and a new stick. If they don't comply with your request, leave. It's your body and you deserve to have it treated with sterile, safe things.

so, I looked up boils and it does appear to be one. However, there is a new development. After my shower this evening, I was squeezing out pus that had reaccumulated. When i did this, the head of the boil seemed to "pop" suddenly like popping a pimple, and this white/grey hard substance came out and attached was a piece of hair. It was really hard and the hair was liek really lodged in it. So I figure I pretty much have a really infected ingrown hair. Since that happened it hasn't refilled with pus again, which I think is probably a good sign. I am not able to get to a doctor until Monday, so I'm gonna see how the next two days go, and if the swelling doesnt go down and if the pus returns I shall book me a doctors appointment, but for now I'm a tad bit releived.

Oh, and just a quick general question to anyone from Australia. I am not from Australia, but I am currently living here. If I wanted to report the salon incase it is an infection, who would I report that to? I've tried googling "health and safety" and "health regulations" and everything for where I live, but found nothing. Any ideas on who I report this kind of thing to?
