My friend asked me about STIs that might lead to cancer in men and I am sort of stumped. I know that HPV can lead to cervical cancer in women, but I'm not turning up any information on STIs causing cancer in men. What's the prevalence? Is there any information you can give me?

Hello there,
There is some evidence that strains of HPV that is associated with cervical cancer in women is also associated with penile cancer.

HPV is also linked to anal cancer in people who frequently are anally penetrated.

HIV is known to cause Kaposi's sarcoma, a kind of skin cancer.

oh, and Hepatitis B (which is sexually transmitted) and C (which is blood-borne) cause liver cancer in men and women.
