Why do some women get their periods a little bit early when they have sex close to their periods?

Well, it's not really about partnered sex, and certainly not about intercourse.
Even if someone were to masturbate and orgasm right about the time their periods are due, it causes uterine contractions that can simply bump up -- only very slightly -- an otherwise sluggish flow.
But chances are, it's not actually early.

Does it have to be masterbating in the vagina or would masterbating outside also cause the period to slightly be bumped up?

Again, the issue here is ORGASM, not vaginal or even vulval stimulus. Orgasm happens primarily in the BRAIN, but has physical effects, like uterine contractions.
So it would make no difference what activity gets someone there. Just know, if you're asking to try and make a period arrive even a couple days early, it's not likely to work.

Oh, I'm asking because earlier this year I had sex and 3 days later my period came like 9 days earlier then it was planned. So I'm worried that if I masterbate or have sex, it'll bring on my period soon again.
