I noticed that having sex is a little more uncomfortable/painful right before I get my period...

does this happen to anyone else, or should I be concerned?

If by sex you mean any sort of vaginal entry or penetration, yep, that's common.

That's often because just before menses, the vagina is particularly dry, as the cervical mucus tends to be very scanty then.

So, as is a fine addition pretty much anytime any sort of genital stimulation is going on, especially penetration, using latex-safe lube as needed when you're in the mood for that, but your body isn't lubricating a lot is helpful.

(Just for the record, though? You say "more" uncomfortable or painful. Really, sex of any type shouldn't EVER be unfcomfortable or painful. If it is, time to stop and look at why -- not aroused enough? nervous? not in the mood? Not using lube as needed? And so forth.)
