Yep. What's most likely is a simple bacterial infection -- simple, but still no fun and often requiring treatment -- but some other STIs can also be transmitted manually.

Best bet? Use latex gloves for manual sex. But at a minimum? Your partner needs wash his hands first.

If you have an infection -- of any part of your body, actually -- what can happen, and often does, without treatment is that the infection spreads.

With a genital infection, that can lead to PID, which can lead to chronic health problems, including infertiity.

If you or someone you know thinks an infection may be present, go see your doctor or sexual health clinic, ASAP. Don't wait.
