To the best of my knowledge, you are legally able to purchase a vibrator if you are eighteen years old. (Legal age of buying sex toys is not something I'm keen of, just as an aside).

Your best bet is to simply look around -- Manhattan has so many, many different shops and specialty stores, that you're bound to find an eneormous selection. Just shop around.

It really depends on where you are. Laws concerning sales of dildos and other "sexual materials" are, as far as I know, subject to something called "community standards."

For one example, in Texas, you aren't allowed to sell something as a sex toy, it must be labeled as "for entertainment" or "novelty purposes" only. Possessing 6 or more is "intent to distribute," and you can be fined.

In most places in the US and overseas, 18 is the age at which you're allowed to go into shops that sell pornography and stores that sell vibrators, dildos, condoms and the like. You can always just go right up to the door - if there's an age restriction, a sign or store clerk will definitely let you know.

interestingly enough, a lot of vibrators are not manufactured nor intended as sexual devices (it just so happens you can use thme that way). For example, I bought a muscle massager while I was waiting for a flight at the Osaka Airport. you know those raunchy duty-free airport gift shops

incidentally, it massages muscles quite well (and at 1050 yen, it was a bargain). these rainy days always make my wrists hurt, and the vibrator works wonders for soothing my carpals and metacarpals.
