Your friend is right.

Swallowing semen or vaginal fluids (other than your own) IS bad because you can contract a crapload of nasty diseases and infections.

The next time you perform oral sex on your boyfriend, please use a condom. Or, if you perform oral sex on a girl, use saran wrap or a dental damn.

Syphilis

is what you can contract from unprotected oral sex. Note: These diseases will stay with you FOREVER!

Just to clarify...

It's having fluids in your mouth and coming into contact with nothing between you and the tissue of the penis is what is so dangerous. Anytime you come into contact with a penis that's not covered by a condom (or conversely with a vagina not covered by a dam), you're risking STD transmission. Swallowing will not make you pregnant or give you stomach cancer or something like that...

(Also, just as a slight correction, gonorrhea as listed in the post above is both treatable and curable, although you can be infected again.)

(Ditto for syphilis, though before antibiotics, it could kill you. All diseases listed here can be treated with varying degrees of success, and each presents its own unique set of dangers; certainly, some more than others.)

Just to clarify, because sometimes folks find this confusing.

Semen or vaginal fluids in and of themselves are not harmful. They will not make you sick or poison you (though some people are allergic and may have reactions thusly).

BUT: Semen and vaginal fluids can contain viruses or bacteria which can transmit STDs and STIs (same goes for mouth-to-genital contact, swallow or no). There is NO way to be sure that is absolutely not possible, and only safer sex practices -- including using condoms and dams, as well as regular testing -- can decrease that risk if you opt to engage in oral sex.

Given the insanely high rates of STDs and STIs transmitted among young adults right now, it is safe to say that it is simply a Bad Idea not to practice safer sex for oral sex, meaning using a condom or dam for the whole of those activities.

I mean... there's ACID in your stomache.
and fluids are just basically glorified salt water

the acid wins!

Sort of like Rock, Paper, Scissors, only . . .sometimes the fluid can contain pathogens (bacteria, viruses), and they tend to win over mucus membranes (throat, mouth), so the stomach acid's irrelevant here.
