I'd never heard of Herpes Zoster before until a few days ago, and I was wondering is that an STI as well?

Also, with Herpes, I read that if you get it once, you will be (a lot?) more susceptible to it in the future. Is that right as well?

Thanks! . I don't have herpes, incidentally

Herpes zoster is the virus that causes "shingles" (and chickenpox).

Herpes simplex is treatable, but not curable. So if you get it once, you've got it for life - even if you are not currently having an outbreak, the virus will still be in your body.

Thanks . Also on your advice I'm off to the GUM clinic tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to the pain of an internal exam with an inflamed cervix, but hey, I'd MUCH rather be healthy .

Just let your clinician know the scenrio in advance: I've yet to meet a GYN who wouldn't be as gentle as possible under those sorts of circumstances.

No one wants to make their patients uncomfortable.
