Hello...so, I've had a yeast-like infection and irritation and such for quite a while now, recurring for at least a few months. Each time I go to the doctor, not only do I get a total run-around (I've seen 5 different medical professionals, each thinking that their cure is the answer, each being totally wrong, and have yet to find any answers or very much help...grr.) Anyway, I'm learning to live with it, but the thing is, I do masturbate (not terribly often, for privacy is difficult to come by, but at least once a week or so.) - I'm wondering if masturbation can detrimentally affect the irritation I'm feeling (like, make it irrevocably worse). I don't often use my vibrator, because it warns about use on irritated skin, but does manual stimulation have the same affect? I'm mostly worried about prolonging the infection, or making it spread or something - I do make sure to be very clean about the whole thing. The part that upsets me (maybe this is more of an emotional stress) is that I find masturbation very relaxing when I can do it, and I'm stressed enough with this infection crap that I don't really want to give it up. Heh. Thanks to anyone who decides to reply...

If your hands and/or toys are clean, it is highly unlikely masturbation is causing your yeast infections.

If they are this chronic and the doctors you've seen haven't ben able to get a handle on it, I'd suggest you look into seeing a nutritionist. Often, chronic yeast infections can be the result of something in your diet or a food allergy or sensitivity. Big culprits can be:

SUGAR. Sugar, sugar, sugar. Especially white refined sugars. That's often the biggest culprit of all.
Processed foods in general.
White flour (as in simple pastas, white breads, etc.)
Cheese (because of the molds in them)
Mushrooms (being fungal)
Caffeine (in coffee or sodas)

Ah... I *adore* cheese... It's my favorite food... And I do eat a lot of it. Maybe that's part of why I get yeast infections... I will ask my doctor when I see him on Tuesday.

Hmm...very interesting. Those foods pretty much describe my entire diet...I should probably start eating a little better, huh? I did find out about this thing called "candida related complex", like, a sort of allergy to yeast and sugars that results in chronic infections and stuff...and one of the treatments is a restricted diet.

If those things are most of your diet, froggish, then it's pretty likely that even if your yeast infections aren't totally related to that diet, it's contributing to them.

Sugar is usually the worst of it, so right now, it might be best to work on cutting that out to the absolute bare minimum (and yep, that means even fruit sugars, though white, processed sugars are the worst). And I'd see if you can't see a nutrionist to have the rest looked into soon.
