This really bothers me-why can't I buy a vibrator? It's really not like they're pornographic or anything. In fact, if they really want to teach abstinence-only in schools then for god sakes-hand out some vibrators!

End of rant, but seriously, since I'm 16 I really can't buy a vibrator. I really want one though! I don't have any friends that are over 18 so having someone else buy one for me is out of the question. I also feel pretty uncomfterable asking my mom to buy me one-is there any place or any suggestions for how I can get one?

I hope this isn't against the guidelines, but...

Remember that a vibrator doesn't have to be phallus shaped or have special doodads attached. It's basically just a thing that vibrates.

Muscle massagers they sell at department stores do the same exact thing. While the technique may be different, it's the same type of stimulation.

Also, no one looks at you funny if you buy a muscle massager. A pink glitter dolphin-shaped vibrator from a porn store... that's sometimes a different story. ::smiles::

If you do invest in a legal, not-marketed-as-a-sex-toy vibrating device, however, make sure that you can keep it clean -and- it's safe for genital use. [Not too hot, too hard, sharp edges, etc.]

Condoms are a really easy way to keep such things clean. Plus, since there is no risk of pregnancy or STD/STIs (since you of course will not be sharing your toy ) you can use questionable condoms - expired, exposed to extreme temps, etc.

And vibrators aren't only sold at adult stores. Many well-known, reliable vibrators are sold at drugstores and other stores. Just look for something that's for personal massage and probably looks vaguely wandlike and that'll probably be one (Hitachi Magic Wand and Wahl are two I can think of)

In fact, the vibrators that are also sold as "muscle massagers" in department stores (like the Hitachi and the Wahl) tend to be much better-made and more durable (they come with warranties, etc.), whereas some of the ones only sold in sex shops are officially manufactured "for novelty purposes only" and often break down very quickly.

And the "muscle massager" ones have the added bonus that, if you want, you can actually also use them on sore muscles .

heh, i think my first vibrator was a 'Garfield muscle massager'

lol!

Then i moved to electric razors, but took the razor-y parts off, and covered it with a towel....

i eventually broke down and bought a vibrator when i turned 18. I don't even think that in canada you have to be 18 to buy a vibrator... hmm..

And i thought i was the only one who tried the electric razor technique.

As for the whole 18+ to buy a vibrator, I agree that's ridiculous. There are still a lot of stores that sell vibrators that you need to be 21 to get into (which makes absolutely no sense to me.) But-- oh well-- sometimes rules just don't make sense. Thank goodness that we're creative people and a lot of random products happen to vibrate. *giggle*

Yeah. the UK wont let enter the sex shops until ur 18. Vibrators are sold in the drug stores but you have to be 18. I tried once with my mate and we bought it. My dad found it and took it back and complained. so now the rule is to check IDs. sheesh

(i know you can use debit cards there now, but do you need a credit card too, cause i think you have to be 16/18, and i'm 15.

coldplayer, I deleted your duplicate post in Body & Soul, since posting something repeatedly is banned in the Guidelines you agreed to when you signed up here. It isn't legal to sell objects intended as sex toys to minors. Please, use some of the suggestions mentioned above, rather than risking getting an Ebayer in trouble. That's just not kind.

Jesus! I've only thought of that a few times, but never done it. I mean, it's used for my mouth. I don't want to use my own electric toothbrush that I stuck in my own mouth. lol

If you're old enough to shop in an adult store, you should be mature enough to omit the prurient details. Please do so in future if you wish to keep posting here.

Try getting one of those toothbrushes and putting a small balloon or something on the end. That way it stays clean.

I personally have never owned or used a vibrator. I'm 20, will be 21 in June. I've never really had the urge or desire to get one or try one. Maybe i will down the road, we'll see about that one. I just happen to have a fantastic sex life that i hardly do any sexual pleasure to myself anymore (not that i'm complaining lol )

Do keep in mind that a fantastic sex life is no substitute for masturbation. There are plenty of reasons to be independently sexual, even if you have an available partner.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post this or not (and if I'm not please feel free to delete it, and I apologize) but Spencer's Gifts does sell vibrator LIKE objects that though are retailed as "novelties" are really vibrators. I am quite sure they have sold to minors and I am also reasonably sure it is not illegal to sell them in my state. So perhaps it would be wise to check on this or perhaps take some of the advice about the Magic Wand...

again, sorry if I was not permitted to divulge this information on this forum.

why not use your fingers until you are old enough to buy a vibrater. dont cost anything, wont break down, and safe!!! i would'nt use anything else to substitute a vibrator as you dont know for sure if its safe to use internally, you know they dont make them for that purpose, although it seems hard to believe. plus, you put a towel over an electric razor???? how uncomfortable must that have been!!!

Let's not order other people about, okay?

There are no legal age restrictions on when and how someone is allowed to masturbate - the only restrictions are on buying from "adults-only" shops.

It's also worth remembering that for some people, fingers aren't enough - women who are pre-orgasmic or who need a lot of stimulation to reach orgasm may find a vibrator very useful for that reason.

quote:
i would'nt use anything else to substitute a vibrator as you dont know for sure if its safe to use internally

Bear in mind that many vibrators aren't used internally - many women use them just for clitoral stimulation.

And as far as safety and reliability go, many of the "massagers" are far better made than some of the cheap and shoddy products marketed as vibrators.

Since most sex toys are marketed as "novelties", they're completely unregulated and there are no guarantees at all of their safety or reliability.

Never underestimate the power of a handheld showerhead! Especially one with varying speeds, the more powerful the better. They're much easier to explain to your mother and no one will question why you've been in the bathroom with the door locked.

LMAO, I was also on the "I have got to be the only person to have thought of the electric razor" bandwagon. Great minds think alike, eh?

Vibrators rock my world. Sex (with someone else) is all good and well (and definitely preferred) but what's a girl to do on a lonely night when her boyfriend is half an hour away? Hands just don't do it for me.

Toothbrush users (for masturbating).

Please remember this, overuse of the toothbrush (or any other vibrator) can cause numbing and loss of sensations of the vaginal area.

It can cause stimulation problems, and it always happens over time.

This isn't just a 'maybe'

So use it, but give your body a break ...or it'll be harder adn harder to find pleasure through the natural means.

It numbs and overstimulates the nerve endings, and though mostly temporary, over time it is permanent.
