If you're here and you're over 25, it's really important you remember that Scarleteen is an organization whose core mission is to serve those under 25.

What does that mean to you?

We need you to be even more mindful of how you use our time than younger users do. We ask everyone to search the main site and boards first before posting a question, but we'll cut our younger users some slack, since this site is FOR them. Older adults who we aren't funded to serve need to be even more sure not to use our time and resources when your question has an answer already on-site.

If your question really isn't relevant for younger users -- like questions about menopause, age-related sexual issues, decade-long marriages, trying to conceive -- please go seek out help for that issue elsewhere. There are far more services online available for older adults for sexuality questions than younger ones, and most have far more resources and staff.

If you are a parent, however, asking questions about young people in general, or your children, that's something else. We're glad to give you our full attention.

Consider if your question or answer really is appropriate for young people. Seriously. Telling young people things that aren't accurate, that are TMI (especially coming from an older adult they don't even know), that sexualize them, or asking your question or posting your answer in a porny way or with a bunch of -isms isn't cool or respectful of our users or staff. And always bear in mind that MOST generations have gotten poor sex ed, so before you answer a younger person, make sure your own information is up to date.

While we hold all our users to our guidelines regarding fraud, if you are an older adult who lists a false birthdate to pretend to be a young adult, we'll boot you immediately. Impersonating younger people here for any reason isn't okay.

In a word, tread light: just please bear in mind this isn't your space, or a space designed for you. This is their space.
