I have known I had an attraction to girls since I was like 11 or 12 (I'm almost 15 now) and I'm pretty sure I'm gay, I would like to come out to my family, because we're very close, but I'm worried how they'll take it. Does anyone have any coming out stories? I'm really nervous and need support.

If you check out the Orientation& Identity FAQ, you'll find links to several coming out stories.

Ultimately, when you want to come out and aren't sure how it'll be received, it tends to be best to start slow. Rather than making a big announcement to everyone at once, you may want to chat in private with a relative you're close to and where you're fairly sure they'll react positively. That way, you'll have someone by your side who'll support you when you come out to the rest of the family.

You might also want to have some resources handy for your family. Why don't you locate your local chapter of PFLAG or a similar support group, so your parents can have someone to talk to, as well?

Thanks Joey, I came out to my uncle this evening and it went very well, he said he had suspected it (surprising to me, because I don't fit the common lesbian stereotypes) and he helped me decided what to say to my dad, I'm still nervous, but I'm feeling a lot better about it.
