Next year, I will be departing for a year long exchange trip. I will be going through Rotary Youth Exchange, and I have no idea what their stance is on gay people in general. They are mostly male and mostly pretty old, and are generally more a more conservative non-profit service organization. However, I would like to know if it would put me in danger of being sent home if I were to be open about my sexual orientation.
I would really appreciate any information regarding this, so if anyone has experience with this or is omniscient or is awesome in any other facet, please advise me as to the safeness of being out.
P.S. I will be going to a in general highly liberal country next year.

Hey, I was an exchange student too! Last june I got back from a year long exchange trip to France which was hosted by Rotary. Yes, rich old white men. If you haven't been involved with Rotary very long (I wasn't), they definitely can be a little hard to deal with for those reasons. I mean just in general.
I'm not sure how much I can help, but I wanted to say "hi" to a fellow exchangee. I'm bisexual. However, I didn't really date when I went on that trip. Also, during the trip, I actually did a lot of thinking about myself and what being bisexual meant to me.
My group of friends at school (I went to a Catholic private school) included a very openly gay boy. They seemed fine and completely accepting of this, but seemed really uncomfortable with the idea of a girl liking other girls (I didn't come out to them, their conversations just got into that territory). France is a lot like America (I'm just saying, if you've never been) in the fact their opinions on subjects can vary widely. They most likely were uneasy about the thought of lesbians and bisexual girls for personal reasons, not cultural or religious ones.
I hope this helps at least a little. What country are you going to?
