I was just curious to know what countries allow and recognize same-sex marriage. I think Spain does but I'm not entirely sure.

And would countries that DON'T allow same-sex marriage help narrow down your list?

If it would, Guatemala doesn't allow same-sex marriages.

Canada does! I'm pretty sure it's national, but I definitely know my province (Ontario) does and a few others as well.

In the U.S., only Masachussetts allows SSM. Yes, Spain recognizes SSM. Other countries that allow it are the Netherlands, Belgium, and Canada (99.9% sure it's national).

A lot of other countries recognize civil unions, which allow SOME of the benefits of marriage, but NOT all of them.

States that allow them: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, and Vermont. Also Washington, D.C.

Countries are: Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

I think some part(s) of Australia allow them, but I'm not too sure which part(s).

Wikipedia actually has a good history/overview of this.

Psst, Pandora: Italy recognizes civil unions, as well.

Canada, it is national. I will confirm that for certain. (It went to the supreme court, and the supreme court declared Gay Marriage constitutional.)

When I did an informative speech on SSM a while back, I found a really fantastic site with this kind of information. While I can't find that exact same site again, a quick google search turned this one up:

http://marriage.about.com/cs/samesexmarriage/a/samesex.htm

I don't know that it's completely accurate, but it seems as if it is, more or less.
