We generally do not delete old accounts. It takes a lot of time for volunteers and staff to answer questions and those answers may be helpful for other users and therefore save time and effort in re-posting replies to questions that were answered and deleted. In threads a user has started where others have participated, deleting them also removes their responses as well, which can cause a lot of confusion for other users. Additionally, as a non-funded organization deleting posts and such take up a lot of time that can be more useful elsewhere.
If there are personal safety concerns (for instance a worry about physical danger) then you can use the “Contact us” link at the bottom of the page and include as much information as possible so that Heather can make an informed decision about what to do. If it’s a matter than you no longer wish to be a member here then you simply no longer post.

Okay, so I suppose I'll contact you guys because I didn't post on this site, my roommate discovered the password for my email addresses, and she got on here and created accounts and posted stuff without my knowledge b/c she had a pregnancy scare and was too embarrassed to use her own email. I think she registered on this site with all 3 of my emails for some reason. I am an early childhood edu major, and I just can't have stuff like what she's posted associated with any of my emails, esp. my school email! I only discovered she did this yesterday when I tried to register for this site because it is very informative and awesome, and it said my email was already taken. Uhg, just not a good situation.

Go ahead and contact us via the "Contact" link at the bottom of the page. Our founder, Heather, will take a look at the situation and get back with you (it may take a few days-week).
As to your concerns about your email, we do not post or publish email addresses here, nor do we release or sell them to anybody. So in that respect, have no fear that somebody is going to "find you" via your email. However, it obviously is a problem if you want to legitimately register and she has used all of your addresses. So send us the info about the emails and we'll see what we can do.

I could swear I deleted these already after your email. Are they still showing up? Could you post the links for me?

Oh, wow, I didn't even look to see if the post was deleted, and I think it is. Sorry! I just thought that since I hadn't gotten a response back, that that meant nothing could be done. Thank you!

Again: can I have the links where it was your friend who posted then? Obviously, I can't know which are yours and which theirs.
Deleting an account doesn't make the posts go away. It just then shows your name as an unregistered account with those posts.

Sorry I'm bothering you about this, I just don't like having this weird stuff posted with my emails without my knowledge. Posts: 16 | From: Ohio | Registered: Mar 2008

Hi, I had been wondering about deleting my account but after reading this post I guess that isn't an option. My main concern is about my email address. Can other members see my email address on my profile page?

No, your email address can't be seen in your profile by other users, so you have nothing to worry about in terms of being "found"
If you use the same or a similar user name on other sites, you can always change your display name in your account here.
